Frequently asked questions

do i still need a primary care provider?

Yes- Our services do not replace your primary care provider (PCP). However, we provide Care Coordination in all aspects with your PCP and any other applicable practitioners you are currently seeing. This allows us to work together for all necessary modifications (nutrition, lifestyle support, supplementation, and pharmaceuticals) to support your health goals.

how is working with a functional nutrition specialist (cns) different from working with a Health coach?

At Life in Balance Nutrition LLC, we practice Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) with a functional medicine lens. This means we use an evidence-based approach to comprehensively assess symptomology, conventional lab results, and functional lab results and provide dietary and lifestyle, stress-reduction, movement, and therapeutic supplementation recommendations. Using this multi-faceted approach ensures we address the root of your long-term health and wellness issues.

do you take insurance?

Currently, we do not participate in any insurance networks (in-network or out-of-network), but we can provide a superbill for insurance reimbursement (if eligible). We hope this will change soon as we are considering all possible insurance network options.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

It often takes 3 to 4 months to improve hormonal, digestive, and inflammatory issues significantly. For this reason, we offer a minimum of 12 & 16-session packages for our 1:1 Functional Nutrition Assessment & Counseling Program, to ensure we set you up for success. Look at our Functional Medicine page for more details about our approach to rebalancing your health.

For those of you looking for support on a smaller scale, we currently offer a monthly customized meal prep subscription plan, customized therapeutic supplement plan support, and genetic assessment support.

can i elect to do a partial package instead of the full package option?

No- but we do have several payment plan options to select from to ease the financial cost burden. We require a longer-term commitment because we believe long-term, sustainable health behavior improvements cannot be achieved overnight or in a few sessions. While people often start to notice improvements rather quickly, it is reasonable to expect that more significant improvements will take a few months. The body will need to learn its “new normal.”

Since we primarily focus on hormonal rebalancing, thyroid health, and digestive wellness (as well as addressing the symptoms of inflammatory conditions such as PCOS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, etc.), we want to ensure we provide comprehensive, long-term solutions vs. short-term bandaids for your health. We are committed to supporting you every step of the way, which in turn means partnering with you through all the stages of improvement for your best health.

Why aren’t supplements included in the package pricing?

We hold a “food as medicine” approach, which means we try to minimize additional costs with therapeutic supplements and modify nutritional intake first. You can rest assured that any therapeutic supplement recommendations are for short-term use, support a specific need, and have a goal in mind.

All current clients will receive a 20% discount for any purchases made through our reputable third-party vendor, Fullscript.

Will you coordinate care with my pcp/specialists?

Absolutely! Our goal is to reduce your stress by working with any and all practitioners you are currently seeing, with your permission. The true purpose of care coordination is to ensure you are being fully supported in every aspect of your health as you work towards your specific wellness goals. And since conventional doctors are often limited with their time, we can help fill the gaps by ensuring everyone is on the same page.

If you prefer to manage this yourself, we can provide letters of recommendation for you to take directly to your doctor for your next visit instead.

CAN I USE MY HSA/FSA CARD FOR FUNCTIONAL LAB EXPENSES?

If you have been issued a debit card associated with your HSA/FSA health insurance account, you typically can use it to pay for functional lab expenses or supplements. Since health insurance policies are constantly changing, you must contact your health insurance provider before attempting to use them to ensure eligibility.
